About

Welcome!

Benvindo to the 15th Cochrane Colloquium in São Paulo !

Over the past fifteen years, the Cochrane Collaboration has grown rapidly and Colloquia (the annual international conferences of the Cochrane Collaboration) are evolving to meet needs of an expanding spectrum of participants. The Cochrane Library now includes a breadth of knowledge that is relevant to a wide range of different types of health professionals, policy makers and consumers. It is important that we continue to develop the quality and quantity of this evidence and ensure that it is accessible to decision makers to support “evidence-based health care for all”- the theme of this year’s Colloquium.

New methodology for systematic reviews of the effects of health care  – including preventive, therapeutic and diagnostic interventions – as well as the use of these reviews to inform health technological assessments undertaken to inform decisions in specific contexts. Ways of bridging the gap between academic activities and practical implementation, and the incorporation of systematic reviews in education, health policies and research will be discussed. There will be dozens of workshops tailored to specific areas, such as evidence-based obstetrics, pediatrics, cardiology, surgery, intensive care, preventive medicine, HIV, chronic diseases, and developing country priorities. There will be opportunities to tailor this Colloquium to meet your own needs. You just have to make your choices. There will be plenary sessions, parallel sessions, poster presentations, workshops and opportunities for meetings to accommodate the needs of both veterans of the Cochrane Collaboration and newcomers. All are welcome!

What's more, you will have the chance to visit São Paulo and Brazil. São Paulo is a vibrant cosmopolitan city, with excellent shopping areas, cultural activities theatres and shows, displaying the Brazilian “joy of living” and featuring Brazilian music, including the Samba and Bossa Nova. As well as this, the city certainly has a very wide variety of first-class traditional and new restaurants that stay open until the last customer is satisfied.

Sãp Paulo is located just 50 miles from some of the most beautiful beaches in the country. Besides this, before or after the Colloquium, you and your family will be able to visit Rio de Janeiro (a 45 minute flight), the Amazon River, the Brazilian Pantanal (a 2 hour flight), the Iguaçú Falls (a1 hour flight), Bahia (a 2 hour flight), and the beaches of the Northeast…

And by the way, São Paulo has one of the most beautiful zoos in the world, excellent football games and Carnival rehearsals! Come and enjoy the nature, music, food, friendly people and health care evidence for all – and take the opportunity to play with (or against) the Brazilian legends of football!
