W46 - Reducing errors in reviews by improving editorial procedures

    Local: Dubai room
    Participants:

    Workshop type: Discussion.

Objective: To discuss ways in which editorial procedures can be used to reduce errors in reviews.

    Summary:
There have been reports of internal inconsistencies within Cochrane Reviews, such as the numbers in the abstracts not matching those in the main review and wrong labelling on the RevMan Analyses. These types of errors can lead to wrong review conclusions, are time-consuming for editorial staff to check and correct, and generally occur by accident or poor attention to detail. This workshop will address practical ways that editorial staff can: (1) work with authors to prevent these reaching the editorial base (i.e. save time in editorial processing); (2) check for such errors in the review (through technical editing and statistical editing); and (3) reflect on their editorial systems to implement measures to address such concerns in the future.

Intended audience: (i) Co-ordinating Editors; (ii) Review Group Co-ordinators; (iii) Cochrane Editors.

Technical level expected of participants: Intermediate.
