Objective: To use a template based on Summary of Findings tables to translate the results from systematic reviews into easy-to-understand summaries.

Summary:
Decision makers, such as health care professionals or consumers, and disseminators of information, such as media, health care associations or consumer organizations, may find it challenging to filter and translate Cochrane reviews for their patients and the public.  A template and guide to facilitate the extraction and presentation of relevant information from Cochrane reviews and Summary of Findings tables were developed and user-tested. Use of this plain-language summary template will be described, and participants will have practical hands-on experience using the template for a Cochrane review.  Participants will translate information about benefits and negative impact in an unbiased and accessible manner - taking quantitative info rmation from Summary of Findings tables and translating such into quantitative information and qualitative statements for the public.

Intended audience: Anyone interested in presenting results from Cochrane reviews in an accessible and user-friendly format.

Technical level expected of participants: Basic/Intermediate.
