Workshop type: Discussion.

Objective: To enable participants to (i) follow the ‘jargon’ used within The Cochrane Collaboration; (ii) understand the basic scientific principles and methods used in Cochrane reviews; (iii) access The Cochrane Library and other Collaboration resources; (iv) understand how to use Cochrane reviews in their setting; (v) identify challenges they have encountered while getting involved and propose solutions; and (vi) plan potential involvement with The Cochrane Collaboration in a specific capacity.

Summary:
The rapid growth of The Cochrane Collaboration and the need for relevant systematic reviews, have attracted many potential contributors and consumers. However people are often unaware or unable to make best use of the resources and/ or contribute optimally to the Collaboration. This is particularly relevant in regions with an inadequate support system and some developing countries.

 This workshop is targeted towards people interested in, but unable or unaware of, how to participate in the Collaboration as contributors or consumers. The facilitators will make short interactive presentations of 10 minutes each, familiarizing participants with Cochrane jargon, the principles behind Cochrane reviews, and how to optimally access and utilize the Collaboration resources. This will be done in English and Portuguese to maximize participation. Particip ants will be encouraged to share personal experiences or difficultie s and offer possible solutions. They would thereby be able to plan optimal involvement with the Collaboration as consumers and contributors.  The summary of the proceedings will be presented to the Steering Group for action as deemed appropriate.

[O desenvolvimento rápido da Colaboração Cochrane e a necessidade pelas revisões sistemáticas relevantes atraíram muitos contribuintes bem como consumidores. Entretanto, as pessoas freqüentemente possuem certas dificuldades em fazer o melhor uso dos recursos fornecidos pela Cochrane e em contribuir com a Colaboração. Isto é particularmente relevante nas regiões com uma infra-estrutura inadequada e em alguns países em desenvolvimento.
Este workshop tem como alvo pessoas interessadas, mas que não sabem como participar da Colaboração como os contribuintes ou consumidores. Os tutores irão realizar curtas apresentações interativas de 10 minutos cada, para que os parti cipantes possam se familiarizar com o jargão Cochrane, com os princ ípios das revisões sistemáticas e, como melhorar o acesso e a utilização dos recursos que a Colaboração fornece. Isto será realizado em inglês e português para aumentar a participação. Os participantes serão encorajados em dividir experiências pessoais ou dificuldades e, oferecer possíveis soluções. Eles, então, serão capazes de planejarem melhores envolvimentos com a Colaboração, atuando como contribuintes ou consumidores.]
